Surabaya

i was born in Enschede, in the eastern part of the Netherlands, called Twenthe, close to where my granddaughter and great grandson are still living.
when i was a little boy my parents and i moved to the city of Delft, in the province Zuid Holland, there my brother Jacobus and my sister Margaretha Hendrika were born. in 1883 we moved to Surabya on the (then called) Dutch Indies island of Java. there my two youngest brothers Adriaan Leonard and George Paul were born.

i was a rather good pupil and in 1887 a won a prize: a book called Verpoozingen. with nicely folded and glued inside a document 'oorkonde' that said so..
